The String Scholars method
At Keys of Joy, we use the String Scholars method — a breakthrough violin curriculum developed right here at our studio by Dr. Angela Crumer. In the same way we learn to speak before we learn to read and spell, this unique approach delays music reading and theory until the student is ready.
This allows students to play great-sounding music from their very first lessons, build a repertoire, and gain fluency on the instrument before they learn how to read music. It's a much more natural approach than traditional violin lessons — and students love it.
Students play classical, folk, jazz, blues, and fiddle styles, building a rich and varied repertoire that makes music a joy rather than a chore.
What to expect
From your very first lessons you'll be playing real melodies — not just open strings or bow exercises. Actual music, right away.
