Our story

How it all started

Keys of Joy! Studio was opened by Evan Hunter and his sister Paige in August 2011 with just 21 students. Located at the Wakarusa Marketplace (1540 Wakarusa Drive, Suite SE), the studio has grown into the most acclaimed music school in Lawrence.

The studio is now run by Evan Hunter and John Hunter, and hosts six instructors including the owners. Our mission has never changed: we want to create a world where everyone plays. Music has brought us incredible joy, and we delight in sharing that joy with others.

We want our students to experience playing music as a natural self-expression, play a vast repertoire of great-sounding music, self-generate — and above all, make music a lifelong companion.

The facility

A world-class music facility

This is not just another music teaching studio. We built a new facility from the ground up for just one purpose: to enable you to become musically expressed for a lifetime. No other studio in the area, outside of a university music department, provides the facility, equipment, and outstanding methods we offer.

All eight of our classrooms are fully sound-isolated — no distractions, no bleed-through from neighboring lessons.

Our classrooms use new Kawai acoustic and digital pianos, HD video displays, and Bose sound systems.

Steinway piano lounge

Our beautiful performance space features a Steinway grand piano, a full drum kit, capacity for a studio band, and state-of-the-art Bose sound reinforcement.
