The String Scholars method

A breakthrough approach to viola

At Keys of Joy, we use the String Scholars method โ€” a breakthrough string curriculum developed right here at our studio by Dr. Angela Crumer. In the same way we learn to speak before we learn to read and spell, this unique approach delays music reading and theory until the student is ready.

This allows students to play great-sounding music from their very first lessons, build a repertoire, and gain fluency on the instrument before they learn how to read music. It's a much more natural approach than traditional viola lessons โ€” and students love it.

Slightly larger than the violin and pitched a fifth lower, the viola brings a warm, rich alto voice to the string family. Students play classical, folk, and chamber styles, building a repertoire that makes music a joy rather than a chore โ€” and gives them a natural home in string ensembles as they grow.
