At Keys of Joy, bass students follow a structured curriculum built from the Zero to Bass Hero and Rock School methods. Each stage builds deliberately on the last — covering groove, timing, and technique in a clear progression that gets students locking in with a band far faster than traditional lessons allow.

Students move methodically from fundamentals to real command of the low end — rock, funk, jazz, blues, R&B — with clear, trackable progress at every stage. The structure is what drives consistent results, whether a student plays solo or with a full band.

Our instructor Taylor Johnson has been playing for over 20 years, performing extensively with KU jazz ensembles and combos, the bands Rotoscope, B.O.G., the Anthony Orange Band, Private Selection, and the R&J Playerz Band, as a Worship Team guitarist, and with the entertainment company The Crossroad Sound — with numerous performances across the Lawrence and Kansas City areas. He applies that real-world musicianship to a structured teaching approach that builds genuine confidence on the instrument, lesson after lesson.
